As seen on Groklaw.
This is nice. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer asked the industry last month to make a $100 PC for emerging markets, and they did. Except it runs GNU/Linux. Oops. Grin:
” . . .Thousand Oaks, California-based SolarPC has managed it with the Linux-based SolarLite. Due for launch in December, SolarLite is a […]
Mr. Ed states “…Recently I have had the misfortune to be playing the interview circuit again; parading from one interrogation to the next like some prisoner of technical war. The experience has been both frustrating and humiliating - and unpleasant reminder of how appallingly most technical interviews are conducted. ”
After reading his post I […]
Define the object in XML and run CodeSmith to generate reams of code. Yet another variation of the theme played out by CSLA and LLBLGen. Although LLBLGen is definetly my favorite.

Seems that IE’s share is down 5 percent since May. Thats a stupendous drop (if accurate). I’m enjoying this because competition in the browser arena is a good thing.

This tutorial uses XMLWriter to create a RDL file that is published to the server. Hmmm. Access reports for SQL Server with a little twist maybe??

Service-Oriented Architectures
I’ve back from travel again, this time from trips to New York City and Chicago where I’ve been working with a number of clients on their emerging enterprise architectures. The common theme I’ve encountered is that large […]

Anyone who’s created a large Web Form that entails a load of postbacks can atest to the user interface problem that occurs in such scenarios:
“Flashing“ of the UI elements, and
Loss of scroll position (namely, if you scroll down to the bottom of a page, and then interact with the UI as […]

Speaking of CodeRush - here is a plug in based on some source code by Lutz Roeder (Mr. Ueber-Programmer himself) that allows a developer to preview what XML Comments and code docs look like to the end user.

Saw this on Scott Hanselman’s site. Nice job of extending a repeater to provide subtotals and groups. Of course one might argue the same thing can be accomplished via XML / XSLT and it would propably render a lot faster - but maybe I’m just a nitpick…

Nice. GZip compression is part and parcel of IIS 6 but figuring out how to turn it on can be a problem
Brad discusses the necessary settings

Not to be left out of the general cacophony of approval for this tool, I wanted to add my link to it as well. Refactoring, Code Completion, Code Formatting etc etc. Nice package it seems.

I just watched the interview with Rockford Lothka on the Serverside. In it Rocky firmly expresses his opinion that VB.NET is great for business app development because of its productivity and C# is better for low level stuff. Some of the more interesting opinions were as follows: :
Many VB6 coders that […]
I consider myself a well educated person. Ha! Would you believe that I just now figured out that Wordpress (my blogging tool of choice here) wants me to approve all comments before posting them? Unbelievable. So comments are approved - and sorry for the confusion Frans!

As seen on The Serverside - a link to an MSDN article about ADO.NET 2.0. Discusses performance improvements of the new version. Funny, I thought for some reason the asynchroneous bulk features had been dropped from v 2.0 Maybe I misunderstood.

EA’s bright and shiny new corporate trademark is “Challenge Everything.” Where this applies is not exactly clear. Churning out one licensed football game after another doesn’t sound like challenging much of anything to me; it sounds like a money farm. To any EA executive that happens to read this, I have a good challenge for […]
