Oracle ODP anyone?

4 January, 2005 (03:02) | .NET Tools

In the past three days I’ve been looking at Oracle as a datasource for a .NET application. Mainly I’m reviewing the design of a consulting company for my present employer. It appears that even though my company uses Oracle 8i, we would have to install 80+ MB of Oracle ODP 9.xxx to get the latest drivers. Whew. Is it me or is that Oracle client app a pig? I promptly checked with Frans who knows more than anyone I’ve met about Oracle and he indicated in so many words that ODP is not signifcantly better than the MS Oracle driver from a performance point - but that MS takes longer to fix bugs in their driver. So damned if you do and damned if you don’t. Maybe I’ll look into DataDirect next….
