Mike’s New Book

Mike Gunderloy recently published a new book called “Developer to Designer”. Here is a link for it. Reading this book reminded me just how thankful I am for the people with whom I worked on my first few programming gigs. “Developer to Designer” deals with the ins and outs of user interface design, primarily in windows applications. The book does have a section on web applications but that part is way outdone by the Winforms chapters. Luckily I had a few guys who early on in my career showed me the attention to detail required by UI design. Things you’d never know if you just jump into the work. For example in a well designed UI one may not typically find an error dialog with a thunderbolt icon. (Yes I was adventurous back then). Reading Mike’s book took me back to my very early days of programming Windows apps in VB and Access. Consequently I think this is a very useful resource for beginning (and maybe even intermediate) coders . A nice reference for consistent UI design. It has examples for creating everything under the sun - from proper error and information dialogs , to menu’s and tabbed forms. You name it. So if you have a team of people with some new guys, this is a book that you could point to and save yourself the throuble of explaining. Mike has done the work for you :)
