A Stranger Among Us
Last night I watched Sidney Lumet’s “A Stranger Among Us” for the umpteenth time. I do not watch many movies more than once so this this one is unusual. It tells the story of a murder that took place among the Hasidic community in Queens/Brooklyn. If you are interested why Hasidic Jews dress and act a certain way, there could be worse things than watching this movie to learn. In addition, some of the dialogue is in Yiddish which has its roots to great degree in old German. So I had fun attempting to understand what the actors were saying. Anyway. The movie has a really nice feel and I can recommend it if your into a murder mysterie with a female lead character. (I guess its a bit of a chick flick but I didnt mind. The photography and details of the Hasidic community made up for that short coming)
