Joel discusses Programmer Productivity

Joel Spolsky talks about the fact that one good programmer can do as much as five bad ones. (Or something like that).

I would like to add to his point that a high salary is not necessarily a sign of a good programmer. I’ve know plenty of guys who didnt charge top dollar and blew away peole who made as much as 30% more than them.

As a manager, whom do you think I’d want to keep around?
