I’m using file references only in 2005 and for some reaso it has a very hard time replacing assemblies after changes are made to them. Eben manually deleting and resetting the reference doesnt work some times. Strange.
Kevin mentioned the way we used to approach this situation in VS 2003. Its a good reference for that […]

You may have noticed that my blog entries contain way more links than they used to. Sometimes they almost look like wikipedia pages. And you may also have noticed that there are more visuals on the pages. This is largely due to the capabilities of BlogJet. I’ve been working with the trial version a few […]

My daughter had a reading assignment for school. A book called “ Al Capone Does My Shirts” . Its a cute story with a nice little twist in the end. At some point during the summer we decided why not make this story much more real and visit the actual Alcatraz Island. We did. So now […]

Andy, over at the Pragmatic Programmers, asked me to take a look at this book last week. Even though I’m not a Ruby fanatic, I am here to say this book has been really well put together.
First things first. If you are a programmer and haven’t been connected to the Internet in the past 3 years you […]

Any developer who knows Goldratt’s Theory of Constraints is tops in my book. Frans pointed to an article on Code Project by Alexander Fedorenko, who discussed his thoughts on time management. Nice work all around.
About 9 years ago I read Goldrat’s books (as well as some others ) during the production of a specialized MRP System […]

Here is a half a page of general info on the licensing scheme for VS 2005. Or if you prefer a picture instead of the 1000 words, look no further.

Windows Workflow Foundation is the programming model, engine and tools for quickly building workflow enabled applications on Windows. It consists of a WinFX namespace, an in-process workflow engine, and designers for Visual Studio 2005. Windows Workflow Foundation is available (currently in beta) for both client and server versions of Windows.
Maybe I’m getting cynical, but why […]

Vance Morrison, a compiler architect for the .NET runtime writes: “ Unfortunately, writing correct, multithreaded programs is not easy. Programmers are simply not accustomed to the idea that other threads might be changing memory out from underneath them. Worse, when a mistake is made, the program will continue to work most of the time. Only […]

For the past couple of weeks I’ve noticed my system behaving very oddly. Strange memory error messages. Explorer stopped working here and there. It was a mess. The Windows Automatic Error report suggested it might have something to do with a driver. Days passed before I could look at it closer and in the meantime […]

SkillJam.com has just accomplished an industry first. The first tournament where you can seriously win $1,000,000.00 – no kidding. All you have to do is play Zuma, Bejeweled and Solitaire really really well.
If you ask me, it sure beats wasting away on some deserted corner of the world whilst being physically and mentally abused. […]

Mike Gunderloy mentions this:
* Mono users meeting at the Microsoft PDC.- The Mono folks have scheduled their own meeting at the PDC, even though they seem to have been locked out of the BOF process. It would be interesting to hear INETA’s point of view on how that happened.
Somehow I get the feeling that people seriously […]

Just a nice note for reference. The other day we had a discussion about ViewState at work. This link would have been handy.
Scott on Writing
When creating ASP.NET pages one thing that usually doesn’t get looked at too intensely by developers is the page’s ViewState weight (I’ve been guilty of this myself). While there are various […]

CSLA .NET 2.0 Change Log
This is an evolving list of changes from CSLA .NET 1.5 to CSLA .NET 2.0. I can’t guarantee it is complete, as I’m assembling it manually, but my intent is to provide some foresight into version 2.0 so people using 1.5 (or earlier) can plan ahead somewhat.
In case you like to […]

NPR : Pets Wait for Rescue, Too
The search and rescue of loved ones along the Gulf Coast includes pets. The Humane Society says it’s rescued about 400 pets so far.
If I’m not mistaken, it is this specific report that points out how much more efficient and organized the SPCA was as compared to FEMA.
So […]

I am furious that once again our government has screwed up and once again its being whitewashed. One of the most telling pieces of news I saw was a report the other day that showed excerpts of speeches by the head of homeland security and the head of FEMA before and after the storm. Chertoff […]

Dmitry, the creator of BlogJet, was kind enough to take a personal look at my config problems. He had them licked in no time. For future referenceif your images are located under /public_html/images for example then thats what goes into the remote folder setting. But the base url would be something like www.yoursitename.com/images – that was […]

You know, it maybe overdone a bit but it does make a very clear point. If you have any doubts about the truth of this shot I recommend watching the video of “Super Size Me“.

BlogJet has so much going for it. Too bad it can’t get a decent FTP connection to my server. From all the forum posts in the support area I gathered that I was not the only one with FTP issues. The frustrating bit is that IE can make an FTP connection to my site without […]
