Whew… got Linux working

So I am finally the proud Papa of a SUSE 10.2 , MySQL 5 and RoR 1.2 setup. Boy this took some doing. Working with a different OS is just strange every step of the way. Plus there are little oddities that one needs to be aware of. For example, its not enough to install MySql, you have to run some command line settings as well. Same for my video card problem. Aftter I pointed YAST at the proper repository on Nvidias site and getting the right installation on my machine, I needed to run some command line call. Thats what I had previously missed. So all is well from a graphics end.

Anyway, I figures its to investigate and reacquaint myself with Ruby on Rails. If Mike Gunderloy can leave the collective and De-Borg himself, a little exposure to RoR will be educational for me. Mind you, I had come this far before. The difference now is that people like Mike and other ’softies and ex-’softies are really catching my attention. So lets this where this will take us.

By the way, I’m trying to use jEdit as the editor for this go around. Should be interesting. The dev cycle is so darn different when you dont have 1.6GB of VS2005 giving you a second by second heartbeat….. :)
