A diary of LINQ pain

12 September, 2007 (05:19) | General

In the past months I have posted here and there how I suspect LINQ really sucks in a variety of ways. I’ve pointed to friends and colleagues who have had their share of trouble with it. Hopefully nobody passes judgement on the fact that that I purposefully stayed away from using it and instead just mentioned second hand information.  Its sort of like smoking - you don’t have to experiment with it yourself to know its not good for your health.

Anyway, Frans has decided to blog about his challenges and successes in implementing LINQ as part of LLBLGen. This should be very interesting because next to Roger Jennings, I suspect Frans will have the deepest technical knowledge about this subject matter.

In his very first post Frans points out a specific dilemma with LINQ that actually ties it completely to the usage of SQL Server - and which makes it less of an Object Relational Mapper as a result. Remember, ORM’s are supposed to work with many db’s and allow you to move your code base from one backend to another with only a minimal impact.
