My fantastic new phone - the Blackberry Curve
Today was the T-Mobile release date of the new Blackberry 8330 Curve Smartphone. What a great deal. Now some might argue that the IPhone is the best cell phone on the market. I am not one of them. Yes, of course the
design factor of the IPhone is fantastic, but from a practical standpoint I think it lacks a few things. Nice to look at though.
Scott blogged about his experience with the IPhone and coined an acronym I will gladly use wherever possible - the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor). For those of us who are married the WAF is important, no doubt.
The Curve is a breeze to set up. Gmail was connected in less than 5 minutes. So far its everything I had hoped for in a phone of this type - but here comes the clincher - if you are a T-Mobile customer you can sign up for Hotspots@Home (using a wireless router) and get unlimited nationwide phone usage of $10. And just to get the ball rolling, TMobile will throw in a Linksys Wireless G Band router for free.
Now that is one fantastic phone deal.
And the phone automatically detects the presence of wifi and switches to that network. I am a happy camper tonight. If you saw my cell bill you would understand. Ever since starting my consulting business again the cell phone usage has gone through the roof. So this deal is incredibly useful to me. Heck maybe Scott will finally forsake his object d’lust and come over to the dark side
Speaking of dark side, for some reason I get more and different ring-tones with the Blackberry Curve. My current selection is a geeky rendition of Darth Vader saying “The dark side is calling Luke”. This in honor of Jeff Gilbert, one of my colleagues on our current project, who loves Starwars avatars and general silliness like that. Here’s looking at you Jeff !

Help me change the ringer for my new curve. I’m new to the Blackberry family coming over from an old - way too old - treo. I’ve yet to figure out how to add my own ringers. I read you’ve changed your, but can’t find how.
Help!
Thanks for the post.

The ringer can be changed by going through the Profile. So on the main screen select Profiles — its the little speaker icon — then scroll down and select Advanced. That will lead you to a text menu. Pick the Normal Profile and click on it.Scroll to Phone and click on it. Then click Tune to change the tune. There are a million settings in this menu so play around until you find something you like. Also, the primary screen of the phone has a pretty good help section that has come in handy for me on occasion.

I’m about to receive the BlackBerry 8330 from Verizon via fedex today. Will I be disappointed to find out it doesn’t have WIFI? and if so, is there a way to dowload a wifi software or is this a chip that’s placed in the phone?
